Renewing as a volunteer

When to renew

Minnesota 4-H asks volunteers to renew once every 3 years. Each fall, staff will notify volunteers who are due to renew.

If you NEED to renew

  • You will receive an email or letter from Regional Support Staff on or after Sept. 14 with instructions on how to renew.
  • Follow the detailed steps in this Volunteer Renewal Guide.
  • Renewal includes two steps:
      1. Re-take Safety of Minors training online or via other methods
      2. Re-enroll in 4HOnline or via paper re-enrollment form
  • Once both steps are completed, your status in 4HOnline will be changed from Inactive to Active.
  • If you have a question about your status, you may contact your local office.

If you do NOT need to renew

  • You will receive an email or letter from Regional Support Staff on or around Sept. 1 to let you know you do not need to renew this year.
  • The new year starts Sept. 14. Between Sept. 14-30, your status in 4HOnline will be in Inactive for awhile as Regional Support Staff work to "auto-renew" volunteers who do not need to renew. Your status should be Active again Oct. 1.

What if I haven't been screened?

New volunteers must do this as part of the application process. Apply now.
