Managing risk with softball

4-H Softball is a 4-H activity designed to teach cooperation, teamwork, and other life skills to 4-H members.  The focus of 4-H Softball is to build self-confidence and to be FUN for members.  Only enrolled members may participate.   

Expectations

• Players must be on a list and the $2.00 American Income Life Insurance premium must be taken out on each player.

• Each team must abide by the specific rules set by the county.

• Sportsmanship is the primary concern and is in effect at all times.

• A First Aid Kit must be supplied by each team.

• Teams must follow the rest of the equipment rules set by the county.

• Cloverbuds may only participate in softball activities if they are separately organized in a K-2 age group, using appropriate equipment and learning basic skills in a non-competitive environment.

Suggested pitching regulations

• • The official slow pitch mat is suggested to determine the strike zone.

  • The top of the arc of the pitch must be over the batter’s head. 

Equipment

• • The umpire should wear a catcher’s mask.

  • The catcher must wear a catcher’s mask.

  • Batters should wear a properly fitted helmet.

  • No metal spikes allowed.
