Renew as a volunteer
4-H volunteers renew their commitment every three years
Each year, Sept. 15 marks Minnesota 4-H volunteer rollover in 4HOnline and the beginning of the volunteer renewal period (in preparation for the new Program Year on Oct. 1). On Sept. 15, 2024, all volunteers who were approved in Program Year 2023-24 will be moved to a Not Enrolled status in 4HOnline.
Regional Support Staff will notify volunteers who need to renew AND volunteers whose enrollment is current.
If you need to renew
Thank you for volunteering with Minnesota 4-H this Program Year. We hope you will join us to continue offering learning and leadership opportunities for Minnesota youth in your community!
You will receive an email or letter from Regional Support Staff in the fall with instructions on how to renew. The renewal period will be Oct. 1 to Nov. 15. Volunteers should not actively volunteer until they are in Approved status.
Follow the detailed steps in this VOLUNTEER RENEWAL GUIDE.
NEW! Videos that demonstrate each step! Learn more with this Introduction to Renewal video.
RENEWAL INCLUDES TWO STEPS:
Re-take Safety of Minors training online or via other methods. The survey at the end of the online video or the Safety of Minors Reporting Form are key to notifying staff that this step has been completed.
Watch a video that explains the Safety of Minors step.Re-enroll in 4HOnline or via paper re-enrollment form. The Volunteer Renewal Guide contains a step-by-step guide through re-enrolling in 4HOnline.
View a video that walks through the re-enrollment step.
Once both steps are completed, your status in 4HOnline will be changed to Approved. You will receive an automatic email from 4HOnline.
You may receive reminder communications (as the Nov. 15 deadline approaches) from 4-H staff if renewal steps are not completed.
If you have a question about your status, you may contact your local 4-H office.
If you do NOT need to renew
Thank you for volunteering with Minnesota 4-H this Program Year. You are eligible to continue your work of providing learning and leadership opportunities for Minnesota youth in your community. Please note that eligibility to volunteer is not a commitment to volunteer. Connect with your local 4-H Extension Educator if you wish to discontinue your volunteer service.
You will receive an email or letter from Regional Support Staff in September to let you know you do not need to renew this year.
Regional Support Staff will update your status to Approved in 4HOnline. Because these updates are made manually, dates of these updates may vary.
