Role description for independent mentors
Purpose
Support the independent 4-H member in goal-setting, planning, completing and reflecting on his or her experience and in fulfilling the annual guidelines for Independent Membership.
Time required
October 1 - September 30 of the 4-H year
Responsibilities
Assist Independent 4-H Member with the completion of yearly enrollment materials and Independent Member Agreement Form.
Meet with 4-H member a minimum of six times throughout the year to discuss progress toward goals and celebrate achievement.
Inform and encourage member, parents and other volunteers to participate actively in appropriate 4-H opportunities.
This role is ideal for an individual with
A sincere interest in teaching and sharing knowledge and skills with youth and adults in an educational setting.
The ability to effectively support the member in taking responsibility for their independent status.
The ability to work and communicate effectively in both verbal and written form.
