Dealing with a fire
Fire prevention and safety must be considered when planning 4-H programs, activities and outings to maintain a safe environment.
Assess potential fire hazards/risks before a program or activity

Locate fire extinguishers, fire blankets and fire exits, ensure 4-H members and Minnesota 4-H Volunteers are aware of their locations.
Put policies in writing and incorporate prevention and safety practices into training.
When in the outdoors, be aware of the fire danger level at the program location.

Sound the alarm so the sound is recognized by everyone.
Determine who will call the fire department.
Practice escape procedures and route assignments.
Designate a meeting place, plus an alternate.
Clearly define instructions to be utilized at a designated meeting place - head count, dealing with upset 4-H members, etc.
Determine where 4-H member contact information will be kept in the event of an emergency and how parents will be contacted.
