Strangers
Dealing with strangers
Learn to recognize adults who have a reason to be present during a 4-H program, activity or outing.
Instruct Minnesota 4-H volunteers and 4-H youth leaders to immediately report any unidentified strangers.
Plan for all Extension employees and volunteers to meet each other at the beginning of the activity so adults can identify each other.
All visitors to a program or activity in a closed environment should sign in and receive identification.
Escort all visitors to their destinations.
Unless the unidentified stranger poses an obvious threat, an Extension employee or volunteer should approach the unidentified stranger to ask for their name and purpose.Â
If the unidentified stranger does not provide their name and a satisfactory reason for being there, asked them o leave and escort them off the property.
If an unidentified stranger becomes a threat or does not leave the property, contact local law enforcement for assistance.
Keep detailed documentation on the situation, including date, time, description of stranger who may be a threat, situation, steps followed, etc.
Instruct all 4-H members and volunteers to report all sightings of intruders to the Extension employee.
